Perth based mine Mineral Resources has launched a recruitment campaign in New Zealand in the hope of filling a range of highly paid skilled and unskilled roles after failing to recruit enough applicants in Australia.
Mineral Resources has launched an advertising campaign to entice Kiwi workers to Western Australia with salaries of up to $300,000 AUD a year and attractive benefits, including offering the option to fly in and fly out (FIFO) for 6 months of the year.
Mineral Resources CEO Mike Grey told NZ radio the company is offering "plenty" to Kiwi workers willing to make the shift to working in Australia.
“The incentives are amazing, and I have no doubt that our salaries double [New Zealand salaries], in some examples, they triple.”
The company is recruiting for a wide range of roles from trades, engineers, project managers, chefs, cleaners and HR staff. Some roles are being offered at $300,000 a year, a huge amount of money compared to the average Australian yearly salary which is $52,338.
By comparison, recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) revealed that the mining industry's average full time earnings are around $140,000 a year.

Despite the high salaries reports this year have revealed that the mining sector is suffering from a major skills and worker shortage, one so bad it may put some planned mining activities in jeopardy due to simply not having enough people to fill the required roles.
However the mining industry can be a tough sell for some Australians as workers regularly work long hours, shift work often requires staff to live in isolated locations while they work.
