Around 73,000 Queensland families will be able to access $150 vouchers to help get kids back into sport once the coronavirus pandemic subsides.

The vouchers will be targeted at families who have received either the JobKeeper subsidy or JobSeeker payment in recent months, with the scheme estimated to cost around $11 million.

The payments are part of Sports Minister Mick de Brenni’s $51.3 million Return to Play package, which aims at helping clubs reopen safely and getting children back into community sport.

Clubs will also be able to access $2,000 grants to purchase disinfectant and hand sanitiser.

"This is about making sure that 73,000 households in Queensland that are doing it tough are going to be able to afford to play sport," de Brenni said.

"Kids have been through a lot in 2020. This has been a really tough time for them.

"And giving them the opportunity to get back out on the sporting field, with their friends, is extremely important."

Queensland sport will allow teams of up to 20 people resume training from 13 June, but all clubs will need to ensure they are Covid-safe, while the number of spectators will also be limited.
