On this episode of 1K Dream Room, host Will Taylor (@brightbazaar) gives Angelica’s small, bland New York City bedroom an infusion of personality and functional furnishings with just $1,000 to spend and one day to finish.

Angelica wants her plain and sparsely decorated bedroom to feel less like a storage space with hats, bags, and a yoga mat hanging on the wall in place of art, and more like a home that reflects her bubbly personality. With tons of natural light and large windows overlooking a park, the space has all the framework for Will to work his magic and give Angelica the sun-soaked, multi-purpose bedroom of her dreams.

Will begins the room transformation, starting from the bottom with a neutral textured trellis fringe area rug. When decorating a small bedroom, Will recommends installing a floating nightstand like this rustic brown floating shelf to maintain any available floor space. The addition of the floating nightstand leaves room for Will to include this twin storage platform bed, which has drawers underneath that Angelica can use for storage.

Next, Will places a rattan arched shelf unit against the wall across from the bed between a window and an arched floor-length wall mirror. Will installs a few more wall fixtures before moving on to the bed. In place of a headboard, Will uses a peel-and-stick red circle wall decal, which he says is an excellent inexpensive option if you don’t have the time, space, or budget for an actual bedpost. Plus, they’re perfect for renters because they don’t damage the wall when peeled off.

After dressing the bed in dark green sheets and a gray, textured throw pillow, Will frames the windows with beige linen curtains that blend seamlessly with the park view and natural furnishings. For the finishing touch, Will gives the room a little more personality by styling the shelves with various plants and winding sculptures to draw in more natural elements before hanging a few of Angelica’s handbags on wooden wall hooks to accentuate her personal style.

After seeing her new bedroom for the first time, Angelica can’t help but literally jump for joy. She loves how the sun-inspired fixtures and soft, natural furnishings highlight the room’s incredible natural light. In addition to her charming bedside lamp and pumpkin-colored adjustable ottoman, Angelica is thrilled to finally have a rug. Overall, Angelica loves how the fixtures and furnishings complement the space, plus a floor-length mirror fit for selfies doesn’t hurt.
