Samantha Armytage has spoken out about the TV industry, saying it can be a ‘dangerous environment’.

The 44-year-old, who married retired farmer Richard Lavender in an intimate Southern Highlands wedding on New Year’s Eve, opened up to the Daily Telegraph’s Stellar magazine about her future plans in the industry, having been at the helm of Sunrise since 2013, alongside David Koch.

“I don’t think any of us want to do the same thing forever,” she said.

“There’s a lot about television that’s all about you and that’s an awful way to live your life.

“TV isn’t a place that’s necessarily very healthy. It’s full of sociopaths and narcissists – it can be a dangerous environment, let me tell you.”

Weekend Sunrise hosts Matt Doran and Monique Write are believed to be Seven's ideal candidates for the jobs, according to reports from Woman's Day.

Monique, 47, is very much "loved by the big bosses", making her the perfect option to replace Sam, 44, when the time comes.

"[Monique has] been at Seven since 1996 and she knows her stuff," a source told the publication.

"She's also a mum, she's relatable and treats everyone with respect."

Matt, 37, is also very popular with viewers and network executives reportedly believe him to be the "heir apparent" after Kochie, 64, retires.

"It's no secret at the network that Matt is the heir apparent - he's a nice fit for all demographics and the female viewers love him," the source said.

"He has a terrific sense of humour, a really strong news sense and is incredibly compassionate when he's out reporting in the field."

Meanwhile, Samantha is happiest when she’s at home with her husband on their farm in the Southern Highlands.

She’s also just launched a weekly podcast for Stellar called Something To Talk About with Samantha Armytage.
