Rare McDonald’s item listed for $1,000

The rare McDonald’s Happy Meal toy is part of a new nostalgic range of collectibles.

A “very rare” McDonald’s item has been listed for sale online for an eye-watering $1,000, as diners try to cash in on the new collectibles craze.

McDonald’s launched its “Adult Happy Meal” range in Australia last week in partnership with American DJ and entertainer Kerwin Frost.

The Happy Meals, which are available for a limited time only, come with a special McNugget Buddies collectible - which were first introduced to Aussies in the 1990s.

The rarest collectible from the collection is the Golden McNugget Legend, which is made from fake gold and comes with a trading card that reads: “Golden like the arches, golden like the friends, golden like the edges of McDonald’s apple pie.”

McDonald’s hasn’t revealed how rare the McNugget Legends are - in fact, they don’t list it among the collection’s six collectibles.

But that hasn’t stopped customers who get their hands on the golden nuggets from listing (and selling) them online. One Sydney diner listed Buddy for $1,000 on Facebook Marketplace a few days ago, noting the item is “very rare” and saying they would accept cash only.

While it’s unclear if anyone would actually buy the collectible for the whopping price of $1,000, some Aussies have managed to fetch a decent chunk for them.

A search on eBay reveals that Australian sellers have successfully sold the golden nugget for up to $120 each in recent days, while others have sold the whole Kerwin Frost collection (including the rare golden nugget) for $200.

Not bad considering the Adult Happy Meal will set you back around $14.45 for a Medium Big Mac Kerwin Frost Box, or $18.05 for a Medium 10 Nuggets Kerwin Frost Box.

It’s not the only valuable Happy Meal toy that could earn you cash. A set of the McDonald’s TY Teenie Beanie Boos from 2000 can fetch collectors $670 for a full set, while the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers set could net you a cool $500.
