The Queensland government is unleashing 36,000 travel vouchers valued at $100 and $200 in a move designed to pump more tourist dollars into the state.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the $4 million voucher scheme on Thursday morning, explaining the vouchers will be available for people travelling in Brisbane and the Whitsundays.

“This will pump millions of dollars back into our economy and help tourism operators doing it tough,” Palaszczuk said.

“We’ve seen how successful this program has been in Cairns – supporting local businesses and local jobs at a time the industry needs it most.”

The vouchers will give visitors 50 per cent off certain tourism and accommodation experiences, with Queenslanders able to enter the draw to pick up a voucher from 27 - 30 April.

Most of the vouchers will be for travel in Brisbane, with 30,000 $100 vouchers available for tourism experiences in the Moreton Bay islands, Scenic Rim and Greater Brisbane region.

Another 6,000 vouchers worth $200 each will be available for use in the Whitsundays. These are available for people staying in the region from 4 May.

How can I apply?

Interested travellers can apply for the Brisbane Holiday Dollars from this website from 12pm AEST 27 April.

Recipients will be announced from 6 May, with those who score a voucher to be notified by a text and email.

The Whitsunday Holiday Dollars can also be accessed through this website, or through participating hotels and visitor information centres from 4 May. More details on the Whitsunday scheme will be released in the coming weeks.

The scheme is available only to adult Queensland residents.
