Prince Harry and his wife took off their shoes to sit on Bondi beach and talk mental health

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took part in a very colourful mental health gathering at Sydney's Bondi Beach this morning.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle participated in a weekly group therapy session run by OneWave; a non-profit surfing community that raises awareness for mental health.

They were given flower leis to wear by OnwWave's co-founders Grant Trebilco and Sam Schumacher.

The group wore bright fluro colours for "Fluro Friday", a weekly event that now takes places at beaches across Australia where members of the organisation share their experiences with mental health issues, surf and do yoga together.

Markle was dressed in a dress by Australian designer Martin Grant - perhaps familiar to the royals for his Qantas first class pyjamas.

"Fluro makes people smile and it gets people asking important questions, which are normally avoided about mental health," according to OneWave's website.

Trebilco, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, started the organisation in spectacular fashion when he went for a surf off Bondi one Friday morning wearing a shirt and tie to spark talk about mental health.

Markle revealed to the group that she gets up daily at 4.30am to do yoga because it "was so good for healing your mind,” and a good way to combat jet lag, News.com.au reports.

Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, has taught yoga in the US.

The pair kicked off their shoes to get sand from Australia’s most famous beach between their toes as they sat down in the circle to talk with the group.

Local mum Charlotte Connel was part of it and said Prince Harry also spoke up.

“Harry opened up about the power of communicating and how opening up can break down mental stigma and how it’s ok to not be ok. And that (when people realise that), the world’s going to be better off for it," she told News.com.au.

Hundreds of onlookers watched on from behind barricades.

The royal couple are in Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and Tonga for a 16-day trip to focus on "youth leadership, and projects being undertaken by young people to address the social, economic, and environmental challenges”.
