Harry Higgs WDs from Houston Open after testing positive for COVID-19

Harry Higgs withdrew from the Houston Open on Tuesday night after testing positive for COVID-19, both he and the PGA Tour announced.

Higgs is now self-isolating and will be replaced in Houston by Kramer Hickok.

Higgs, 28, is still looking for his first win on Tour, though he finished in second at the Safeway Open earlier this season. He had two top-10 finishes in his first season on Tour last year, including a runner-up finish at the Bermuda Championship and a T9 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open.

He last competed at the Zozo Championship, where he finished T54.

There have been more than 9.4 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the United States as of Tuesday night, according to The New York Times, and nearly 232,000 deaths attributed to it. The country reported more than 93,000 new cases on Monday alone, and is averaging more than 85,500 new cases a day — an all-time record.

Higgs is the latest golfer to test positive in recent weeks. Adam Scott withdrew from the Zozo Championship after testing positive, one week after current World No. 1 Dustin Johnson did so at The CJ Cup.

The Houston Open is set to be the first tournament since play resumed in June that will welcome fans back to the course, and is the final event before the Masters Tournament — which was rescheduled from April due to the coronavirus.
