One Accenture plc (NYSE:ACN) insider reduced their stake by 9.8% in the previous year

From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Accenture plc's (NYSE:ACN ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Accenture Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Independent Director, Paula Price, for US$275k worth of shares, at about US$387 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$303. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Paula Price was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Accenture insiders own about US$181m worth of shares (which is 0.09% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Do The Accenture Insider Transactions Indicate?

There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. While we feel good about high insider ownership of Accenture, we can't say the same about the selling of shares. Therefore, you should definitely take a look at this FREE report showing analyst forecasts for Accenture.
