The mother of former Cronulla Sharks head coach John Morris has blasted the club for how they treated her son in his final days at the club.

Morris told the news on Tuesday afternoon to the Sharks that he would leave the club immediately after the Sharks announced he was axed for next season and they had signed Craig Fitzgibbon on a three-year deal from 2022.

Assistant coach Josh Hannay will replace Morris as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

But the sudden change from the Sharks has not sat well with everyone.

Morris' mother, Sharyn, unleashed on the club for how they treated her son, who has now served as a player and a coach for the Sharks.

Leading NRL reporter Buzz Rothfield revealed Sharyn was 'disgusted' at the club and took aim at their leadership.

“My heart breaks for my son the coach,” she wrote, in a message shared by Rothfield on Twitter.

“So dedicated so loyal. So disgusted that he was treated so badly by the board.

“Even though he knew they weren’t re-signing him he wanted to finish out his contract. He loves his players and staff. His only question … why?

“They couldn’t answer him. Fans get to know your board. They are deceitful liars."

“24 hours earlier they said ‘no deal had been done’. You have the power but must be financial members for 3 years before you can vote. Vote them out and bring back Barry Russel [sic] a true loyal Sharks man.”

Morris received backing from former Sharks coach

Following the news Morris wouldn't be coach in 2022, he received backing from former coach Josh Flanagan.

He claimed the situation was 'disappointing' and felt Morris had a tough ride during his tenure.

“For me it’s a bit disappointing,” Flanagan told Triple M.

"Being a Sharks fans and I live in the area, I think he’s done a reasonable job, yeah they haven’t been in the top four and I know that’s what the club pride themselves on but there’s been some difficult circumstances.

“There’s been some good players out of form or injured over that period.

“You’ve got to get a bit of luck and to be honest, I feel a bit sorry for John Morris because the club hasn’t told us why they’re getting rid of him.

“They keep trotting out the excuse that they want to be a top-four club and John can’t attract the players to the club that they need to. I don’t cop that. I want to know why they are going to get rid of him.”
