‘Not Skinny But Not Fat’ host shuts down Kylie Jenner conspiracy theory: 'You guys. Really?'

Amanda Hirsch recently had one of the kraziest weeks of her life: One day after being the official Hulu correspondent on the red carpet at the streaming platform’s premiere of The Kardashians, where she interviewed most of the famous family, she welcomed Kim Kardashian as a guest on her podcast, Not Skinny But Not Fat.

She’s also now co-hosting a YouTube series for E! based on the famous family, and she recently relaunched a highly successful collaboration with cookie dough startup Deux, a flavor called Xxtra Chocolate Chip, the first run of which sold out in just two hours.

For the latest episode of In The Know’s pop culture interview series We Should Talk, Hirsch opened up about attending the big premiere, how she approached her interview with Kardashian and her partnership with Deux, and she looked back on her career milestones.

On interviewing Kim Kardashian for her podcast: When I got to the interview, I was like, “Today’s the day.” That felt like it was mine. … That was the most monumental moment for me. We had 45 minutes with her, and I had prepared questions, but she was down for anything. I got no restrictions on what to ask her. I was very surprised by that. She meant “Ask me anything,” but I also think she trusts me and there’s a reason why she did my podcast. She knows that I would respect her. Even bringing up the divorce, I was like, “I don’t want to upset her!” … You want to maintain good relationships, you want it to be mutually beneficial and you want people to get good stuff out of it. At the end of the day, it seemed like people were really happy to get a different side to her.

On the conspiracy theory that Kylie Jenner wasn’t actually at the premiere of The Kardashians: I’m the first person who loves conspiracy and loves sleuthing and trying to figure out what’s up, but because I was there and I saw this happening, I was like, “You guys. Really?” … I did want to tell the truth, because nobody killed anybody, nobody did anything wrong. Kylie didn’t show up to the red carpet, but she came into the premiere when we were watching the actual show. She walked right beside me and sat down in her seat. What I think happened is, she just took the pictures when the carpet was empty. If I had to guess based on my own intuition, I think that Kylie’s having a bit of a rough time postpartum. She spoke about it on her Instagram stories, and I would assume that maybe she doesn’t feel comfortable right now being with a ton of flashing lights and people asking her questions. That’s the vibe that I personally feel. This is not based on anything I was told. I just feel that way. There’s something that she’s not feeling herself right now, and that’s why she’d rather sneak in when everyone was already inside.

On her collaboration with Deux: I am not a businesswoman by nature. I’m a “How much money is in my bank account? I don’t know!” person. I go by my heart, mostly. I’m learning the business more now, and I’m trying to obviously understand it more and be better about decision-making, but at the end of the day your intuition speaks the highest of everything: of people, of what looks right. With Deux and the first flavor that we did, I was just getting started with brands sending me stuff, and I got this cookie dough. I tasted it, I was obsessed, I looked at the ingredients and couldn’t believe that they were so clean. When I came out with it, I was like, “I’m doing a collab with Deux,” and everyone flipped. People do fashion things, but without me even thinking about it, this was really on-brand. Random? Yeah, but also on Not Skinny But Not Fat, we talk about eating and wanting to eat healthy but also having a sweet tooth. This happened in the most organic way.

On celebrating her own career milestones: I’ve been doing this — it’ll be six years in May that I’ve had my Instagram account that I’ve poured my heart and soul into. It’s been my baby. It’s been there with me along the way when I was working two jobs, when I gave birth to my son, right after I got out from the hospital. I wasn’t into making money until probably, like, a year ago. On the one hand, this feels like “Pinch me! Hashtag blessed! I can’t believe I’m doing what I’ve always wanted to be doing!” And, of course, I step back and say how grateful I am and how happy I am, but there is also the moment of “I do deserve it. I did work for it. I did want this my whole life!” … People are like, “When you say manifesting you aren’t giving yourself enough credit.” And I’m like, “No, when I think of manifesting, I think of it as somebody who wants something, allows themself to put it out into the world even if it sounds wild and allows themself to believe in themselves that they can do it, and to work toward that.”
