North Bondi beach party under investigation for Covid 'breach'

A gathering held on the beach in North Bondi has gained the attention of NSW Police, who are investigating to see if any Covid rules have been breached.

A video from Bondi on Sunday afternoon shows a large group of people on the ‘grassy knoll’ area mingling and dancing to music.

It is believed the musicians are from Bondi Sunset Music group, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The group typically gather every Sunday afternoon and aim to “reconnect people through dance and live music”, according to their Facebook page.

There is no suggestion the group holds any responsibility for the party.

Current public health orders prohibit gatherings of more than 30 people outdoors in NSW.

One video posted to TikTok appears to show many more revellers on the hill.

The video, uploaded by user Oxana Alexandra, is captioned ‘corona central’.

“Come on Sydney get it together we don’t want another lockdown,” she wrote.

In another video posted to Facebook, one man slams the group over the lack of masks and social distancing.

A member of the party claimed no rules had been broken because the number of attendees never exceeded 30 people.

A police spokesperson said police were “aware of the matter and are conducting inquiries”.

The video comes as NSW recorded zero new locally acquired cases of coronavirus in the 24 hours to 8pm on Sunday.

Three more Sydney venues were at the centre of NSW Health’s latest Covid alert on Monday afternoon after they were visited by a person infected with the virus.

NSW Health announced that authorities are investigating the source of infection for a recently confirmed Covid case.
