Julius Randle's mom surprises him with touching video message after earning All-Star nod

New York Knicks forward Julius Randle was on the court on Tuesday night, clearly busy when the NBA announced the reserves for the 2021 All-Star Game.

The Knicks, however, had things covered.

The team, during a timeout early in their 114-106 loss to the Golden State Warriors, played a special message from Randle’s mom on the screens at Madison Square Garden. His mom, Carolyn Kyles, got to congratulate him on his first career All-Star nod.

“Hi Julius! Surprise,” Kyles said while Randle breaks out into a massive smile. “I just wanted to say that I love you so much, and I’m so proud of the son and the teammate that you are. Continue to grind and work hard, putting forth great effort for your team. Just continue to work hard, and great things are going to happen for you. Love you.”

Randle has averaged 23.2 points and 11 rebounds, both career highs, so far this season with the Knicks while keeping them in playoff contention. The 26-year-old is in the second year of his three-year, $62 million deal with New York.

Undoubtedly, he’s earned his spot in next month’s All-Star Game.

Though that event will be a memorable one for him, Tuesday night’s touching moment with his mom likely isn’t one he’ll forget for a long time.
