Unless you’re a bona fide wine connoisseur, you’ve probably wondered at some point or another whether the expensive wine you’re buying is actually better than that cheap wine you also like.

It’s something one clever mum has taken advantage of.

“Presentation can make all the difference and save you a fortune if you like a quaff of vino,” the mum said, sharing a photo of a bottle of Tempus Two wine and a cask of Albertson’s Reserve wine from Aldi.

“You may think you are looking at a cheap cask of Aldi wine ($8.60 or so) and a lovely full bottle of Tempus Two (my fave $15 and up),” she told Facebook group Mums Who Budget and Save.

“But you’re not. It’s a cheap cask of Aldi wine and an empty bottle of Tempus Two filled with cheap Aldi wine. Pour it into a nice glass and you and whoever else you’re sharing with won’t know the difference.

“I even had someone comment the other day on what a nice drop it was.”

And Aussie mums can’t get enough of it.

“You, my friend, are brilliant,” one member of the group said.

“That’s a great idea. My boyfriend only likes wine if it has a picture of a bull on it lol and apparently he hates Aldi wine. I might try it,” added another.

“Love it! Trick the wine snobs!” exclaimed another.

Another mum said she does a similar trick with her kids.

“I do this with my kids. Keep the brand name cereal box and just slip the home brand bag inside. Works with kids why wouldn’t work with adults?”

“That's gold,” another person commented.

“I did this year's ago with coffee. A coffee snob… told me he would never drink Aldi coffee... did so for years out of a Nescafè jar.”

Others expressed regret over the money they had spent on wine.

“Man, I just paid 26 bucks for two bottles of wine at BWS and thought it was a bargain! how wrong I was…” one regretful Aussie said.

But not all were impressed.

“Imagine needing to go to this effort to share a glass of wine with your friends. No thank you,” one person said.

“My real friends wouldn’t care less what I’d serve them,” another member echoed.

However, for some, the real news was that Aldi sells wine.

“Aldi sells wine? How did I not know this.”
