How Much Are DroneShield Limited (ASX:DRO) Insiders Spending On Buying Shares?

It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in DroneShield Limited (ASX:DRO).

What Is Insider Selling?

Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.

Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise.

DroneShield Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Charles Goode bought AU$1.2m worth of shares at a price of AU$0.26 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of AU$0.28 per share to be enticing. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider bought shares at close to current prices. Charles Goode was the only individual insider to buy over the year.

Insider Ownership of DroneShield

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. DroneShield insiders own about AU$17m worth of shares. That equates to 24% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At DroneShield Tell Us?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded DroneShield shares in the last quarter. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening.
