Chart: The world's most downloaded apps in 2019

Not all apps are made equal – and some are much, much more popular than others.

Apps like WhatsApp and Tiktok, for example.

The instant messaging and video-sharing platforms were the two most-downloaded apps last year around the globe, according to a report by SensorTower.

WhatsApp amassed more than 850 million downloads across the world, while Tiktok saw more than 700 million downloads.

Coming in a close third was Facebook’s Messenger, followed by the Facebook app itself.

Instagram came in at fifth place.

The global app economy is expected to reach US $6.3 trillion (AU $9.25 trillion) by 2021, according to forecast figures by App Annie.
