New mom enraged by husband’s decision to become a ‘stay-at-home dad’: ‘You’re being incredibly inconsiderate’

A husband is at a standstill with his wife because he wants to be a stay-at-home dad.

He shared the dilemma on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum. His wife has been a stay-at-home mom for three years after recovering from a difficult pregnancy. But the father feels it’s his turn to be home, while his wife works. However, she disagrees.

Decode and demystify Gen Z's latest online slang terms with In The Know's new glossary.

“My wife decided to stay home throughout her pregnancy as she wanted to take full care of herself and the baby for the duration of pregnancy,” he explained. “I was okay with that because I was earning enough for both of us and thought we could comfortably get by on just my earnings. After her pregnancy, which was a high-risk one, we decided not to have any more kids and to just be happy with the one kid we do have. She wanted to continue to stay at home for more time and I was again okay with that.”

But after a few years, the husband felt it was time to switch things up.

“However, now it’s been nearly three years and I’m wanting to quit my job and be a stay-at-home dad as I now have a lot of savings accumulated from my job as well as investments,” he wrote. “She however is against the idea because she feels it will be harder for her to find a job now to support both of us successfully. I told her that I did not ask her to stay at home and I just agreed to be the only earning member because she was recovering from her traumatic birth experience. I want to spend just as much time with my child and it’s not fair that she gets to be the super mom and I be the absentee father due to working overtime every day to support the family financially. I desperately need a break.”

People weighed in on the couple’s difficult situation.

“You’re being incredibly inconsiderate. With your wife being home for that many years she is going to have a hard time re-entering the workforce,” someone commented.

“Both of you have valid points here,” another said.

“Y’all are going to have to come to some sort of compromise on the work thing to keep the family afloat,” a user posted.
