Megan Rapinoe's memoir to be adapted into television series

A Megan Rapinoe television series appears to be on the way.

The USWNT star’s memoir “One Life” has been optioned by Sony Pictures Television to be adapted as a scripted television series, according to Deadline. The project is clearly in the very early stages, as Sony is reportedly now looking for a writer to actually write the adaptation.

Rapinoe’s memoir was released in November and soon became a New York Times bestseller. In the book, co-written with Emma Brockes, Rapinoe goes through her ascent from a childhood in Redding, Calif. to soccer stardom and political activism.

From Deadline:

“My intention with ‘One Life’ was to inspire others to action,” said Rapinoe. “I hope that by sharing my experiences, both on and especially off the field, others will be moved to educate themselves, speak up for justice and push for a more hopeful future. I’m excited to be working with the Sony Pictures Television team to bring my story to life on screen. They have a true understanding of the universality of the themes in the book and I cannot wait to see how this develops”

Rapinoe’s background needs little introduction. Between her two World Cup titles and Olympic title with the USWNT, Ballon d’Or, other honors and unapologetic outspokenness on political issues, Rapinoe remains one of the most well-known athletes in the country. She also recently announced her engagement to WNBA star Sue Bird.

This won’t be the first time Rapinoe has dipped her toe into television, as she hosted “Seeing America” on HBO earlier this year.
