'Massive' Domino's change near doubles price: 'Dodgy'

Australians tightening their purse strings may not have realised a pricing change at Domino's.

A woman has exposed the incredible price difference when you get Domino's pizza delivered to your door instead of picking it up from the store. With the cost of living crisis crunching everyone's wallets, Aussies are trying to ensure they're not hit with any fees or charges that will put them in the red.

While it's understandable to have to fork out a few dollars to have the luxury of fast food brought to your home, Nay Mcrae certainly wasn't expecting delivery to almost double her order. She posted a comparison of getting her pizzas delivered versus pick-up and called out the "massive" price difference.

"Has anyone noticed such a massive difference in pizza prices when doing delivery? This is our local Domino's, won't be getting delivery anytime soon," she wrote.

Her screenshots showed if you picked up three large pizzas from the store in Kempsey, New South Wales it would cost $35. But if you get it delivered, that price skyrockets to $65.

It appears that a surcharge is applied per pizza, rather than just a delivery fee chucked on the end of the bill.

The $16 pickup large Supreme Pizza turned to $26 when delivered, the $12 pickup large Philly Cheesesteak went up to $22 if you want it brought to your home, and the $7 pickup ham and cheese pizza went up to $17 for delivery.

Aussies couldn't believe the price difference.

"Oh my goodness that’s crazy! We also find vouchers on Frugal Feeds which often gets us 40 per cent off the pickup price," one person said.

"Yes! I called them out on this and they said they now add a delivery fee to EACH PIZZA in the order! Not a flat rate anymore. Sooo dodgy," said another.

Domino's did not advise when the pricing change came in when contacted by Yahoo Finance.

A spokesperson for Domino's told Yahoo Finance they understand how prices are affecting Aussies "as household bills continue to rise".

But, at the end of the day, delivery has a price.

"Our delivery menu is higher because it offers the ultimate convenience – hot and fresh pizza delivered straight to your door. This menu pricing takes into account additional costs like labour, fuel and mileage required to get the order from our store to your door," the spokesperson said.

"Domino’s pick-up menu is where you will find the lowest pricing as there are no additional costs to get this order to you — simply place your order online, over the phone, or in-store and collect it."

Food delivery services in Australia, like UberEats, Door Dash and Menulog, have different delivery pricing models, with some charging based on the distance between the customer and restaurant, while others have a flat fee attached to the order.
