China's Shanghai Composite (Shanghai Stock Exchange: .SSEC) closed lower, but managed to pare losses after falling as much as 4.6 percent to an intraday low of 3,019.0 points.

European bourses opened higher on Wednesday morning and U.S. futures are pointing to a positive start on Wall Street. We'll keep you updated.
