Good morning.

Stocks: The ASX is expected to open significantly lower following one of the worst days on Wall Street in six weeks.

The Dow Jones finished 1.86 per cent lower, while the S&P 500 was down 1.79 and the Nasdaq Composite was down 1.56 per cent.

Wall Street: Wall Street’s slump came as a new report showed private payrolls growth in August wasn’t as strong as had been expected, as businesses become more hesitant in their hiring.

Additionally, the US won approval to levy import tariffs on US$7.5 billion worth of European goods, sparking fears of a tit-for-tat trans-Atlantic trade war.

Employee wins after ‘humiliating’ attack: A woman has won her four-year discrimination case against Sydney Water after her image was used on a safety poster in a way that the tribunal agreed would be offensive and humiliating.

Maggots are the future: Maggots aren’t pretty, but they could be an essential part of a zero-waste future, according to this maggot-farming CEO. Read more about this innovative technology here.

Forget a pay rise! I want… Eight-in-ten Australians would be willing to forgo a pay rise if they got other work perks like flexible work arrangements and bonus paternity leave. But those aren’t the only perks worth giving up a pay rise for.

Give a mate a hand? Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has encouraged Australians to head out to drought-stricken towns and spend a bit of cash to support struggling communities.

"If people can take a trip to these areas, spend money in these communities and back those small businesses, then that will be important to them staying on their feet," he told reporters.

Don’t get RIP’d off: Are prepaid funerals worth it? Probably not, consumer advocate group CHOICE has warned as part of its investigation into the funeral industry.

Robo-debt stumbles back into firing line: Centrelink’s beleaguered robo-debt welfare recovery system is the target of another parliamentary inquiry, as the government admits that more than one-quarter of debt notices sent have been wrong.

“[Robo-debt] continues to pursue hundreds of thousands of people over alleged debts that may or may not exist," the Australian Council of Social Service says in its submission.

Have a great day!
