Manhattanite John is on the hunt for a new apartment as he makes the move to Queens

On this episode of In The Know: Find My Dream Room, host Will Taylor (@brightbazaar) helps John find a new pad in Queens with more space to work from home and natural light. With a budget of $2,200 a month, the former Manhatannite is looking for a 1-2 bedroom apartment between Queens and Brooklyn with lots of natural light, a dishwasher, and enough personality to make it feel like home. Can Will’s real estate expertise help John find his dream apartment? Let the house hunting begin!

Apartment number one is a modern 2-bedroom unit renting for $2,200 a month. John loves the natural light-filled living room and overall design of the space. Moving on to the kitchen, John, who enjoys cooking, loves the galley space between the stove and cabinetry that leads to a large window, bringing in more natural light. While the kitchen does not include a dishwasher, John is so impressed with the space, which even features a dining nook, that he’s willing to forgo that prerequisite. As for the bedrooms, John says the second bedroom is exactly what he’s looking for in a home office and guest bedroom. However, the main bedroom is a little on the smaller side, though it does have two large windows.

Next up is a minimal 1-bedroom apartment priced at $1,700 a month. Immediately, John falls in love with the large windows, which give the living room a light and airy feel. Plus, John notices the potential an open living room plan offers. The kitchen is similar in size and layout to apartment number one, but this one includes a dishwasher and a view of the Manhattan skyline. John also loves the spacious bedroom with plenty of closet space and natural light.

Last but not least is a unique Victorian-style 2-bedroom apartment renting at $2,400 a month. John is blown away by the large space and natural light streaming through the windows. While the apartment is slightly over budget, its distinctive layout provides limitless possibilities for John to make the space his own. The primary bedroom is the biggest and brightest of all three apartments. Though the kitchen is also the biggest and brightest of all three apartments, it does not include a dishwasher.

Three weeks later, John reveals that apartment number one is the winner! In addition to the ample natural light and overall design, John loved the unit’s second room, which he can use as a workspace.
