A man has been jailed after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a child.

Anandarajah Bremakumar, 61, of Colindale, was sentenced to 30 months in prison after a hearing at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday.

He had been found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child following the conclusion of a trial at the same court in December.

The court heard that Bremakumar carried out the abuse in 2010 on a victim under the age of 16 who was known to him.

But the police were not contacted until 2019 after a third party report was made to officers from a therapist.

Bremakumar was arrested on April 30, 2021, but denied the allegations. However, he was subsequently charged on December 16, 2021.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “This young woman has shown immense courage in speaking to the police and supporting this investigation.

“I hope the fact that Bremakumar has been found guilty gives her a sense that justice has been done”
