Yahoo Finance Lawyer gets stuck on kitten filter during Zoom courtroom hearing: ‘I’m not a cat’
A virtual Texas courtroom hearing is going viral thanks to a wholesome and hilarious technical error.
When the 394th District Court of Texas tried to hold a Zoom meeting on Feb. 9, an attorney got trapped in a cat filter. Presidio County Attorney Rod Ponton arrived to the video call in his best fluffy white fur, while the other three men in the meeting, including Judge Roy Ferguson, wore suits. The funny clip has since racked up 4 million views on YouTube.
In the video, Ponton appears as a cat. The very realistic filter is able to mirror his facial emotions and the cat looks quite upset, confused and shocked as its giant eyes darted back and forth.
“I’m prepared to go forward with it. I’m here live, I’m not a cat,” Ponton said, unable to turn the filter off.
Fortunately, the men had a sense of humor about the situation,
“If a child used your computer before you join a virtual hearing check the Zoom Video Options to be sure filters are off,” Judge Ferguson tweeted. “This kitten just made a formal announcement on a case in the 394th.”

Ponton revealed he had been using his assistant’s computer and didn’t know how to remove the setting.
“If I could make everyone laugh at my expense I’m happy to do that,” Ponton told NBC News. “It’s an example of what can happen in our computer connected world.”
Judge Ferguson said mishaps like this are bound to happen with so many Americans working from home.
“These fun moments are a by-product of the legal profession’s dedication to ensuring that the justice system continues to function in these tough times,” Ferguson tweeted. “Everyone involved handled it with dignity and the filtered lawyer showed incredible grace. True professionalism all around!”
