Last chance to claim $1,000 payment

The Disaster Recovery Payment can give you a lump sum to help deal with the impacts of last year’s floods.

Aussies in New South Wales who were impacted by flooding in July 2022 have only a few days left to claim the Disaster Recovery Payment.

Services Australia said those who suffered damage as a result of the extensive flooding last year had until April 5 to make a claim.

“The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment is not for minor damage or inconvenience,” Services Australia said.

“Its purpose is to help you with major damage to your property or other assets. You can choose to get this payment in two parts.”

If you are eligible, you can receive $1,000 per adult and $400 per child younger than 16 years of age.

How to make a claim

You can check full eligibility criteria on the Services Australia website and can claim the Disaster Recovery Payment online through Centrelink.

To claim online, you need a myGov account linked to Centrelink and if you don’t have an account you’ll need to set it up online.

If you need help, call Services Australia 180 22 66, Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 7:00pm and on weekends between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
