If you haven’t yet seen Sydney McLaughlin, it’s because she’s running incredibly fast. The 21-year-old athlete is a sprinter and hurdler for Team USA. In 2016, at age 16, she made history in Rio as the youngest U.S. Olympian to compete in track and field since 1972, and set a junior world record in the 400-meter hurdles at the Olympic team trials. Most recently, in 2019, she came in first place at the World Championships. Prior to turning professional, she competed for the University of Kentucky. McLaughlin was the Gatorade Girls National High School Track and Field Athlete of the Year for the 2015-2016 season — and she hasn’t lost a race since high school. When McLaughlin isn’t racing, she volunteers for the Central Jersey Chapter of Hope Worldwide on behalf of the American Red Cross and coaches at The Armory Track and Field Camp for up-and-coming runners.
