Kenny Golladay reportedly signs 4-year, $72 million deal with Giants

Free-agent wide receiver Kenny Golladay has made his decision. After what felt like weeks of speculation, Golladay will reportedly sign with the New York Giants, according to Josina Anderson.

Golladay, 27, will reportedly sign a four-year, $72 million deal with the team, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The deal can max out at $76 million. The Giants guaranteed $40 million to Golladay.

Golladay also drew interest from the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears. He met with both teams before meeting with the Giants on Thursday. It's unclear whether the Bears made Golladay an offer, but the Bengals reportedly offered Golladay a one-year, prove-it deal. If true, signing with the Giants probably wasn't a tough decision.

Kenny Golladay coming off injury-riddled season

With the Giants, Golladay will have to prove his career is still on the upswing after enduring an injury-riddled 2020. Golladay played in just five games last season due to a hip injury. He finished the season with 20 catches for 338 yards and two touchdowns.

Prior to that, Golladay looked like one of the best young receivers in the NFL. After a solid rookie season in 2017, Golladay took a major step forward over the next two years. In 2018 and 2019, Golladay averaged 67.5 catches for 1,126 yards and eight touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl in 2019.

As long as Golladay is over his injury, he should return to form. If he does that, Giants fans will be happy with his production.

Kenny Golladay gives Daniel Jones a big weapon

The move also gives quarterback Daniel Jones a strong No. 1 target. Golladay is the best receiver Jones has played with since entering the NFL in 2019. There are questions about Jones' ability, but getting him more weapons can't hurt.

After throwing 24 touchdowns against 12 interceptions as a rookie, Jones regressed in 2020. In 14 games, he threw just 11 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Jones was likely hurt by losing running back Saquon Barkley with a knee injury in Week 2.

In the two games in which Barkley was healthy, defenses stacked the box against the Giants and forced Jones to make plays. Teams may try a similar strategy in 2021, but Golladay gives the Giants a receiving threat that can make defenses pay if they overcommit to stopping Barkley.
