Yahoo Finance ITK Bowl 2021 Teams: It’s nearly game day for our athlete-gamer duos
The ITK Bowl 2021 is kicking off and it’s time for you to meet our teams. Join NFL sportscaster and host Kay Adams as she introduces the duos playing in our Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War tournament, sponsored by Pizza Hut.
For our final pre-event episode, we have our last two duos. Twitch streamer Jordan “LEGIQN” Payton and DeVonta Smith of the Alabama Crimson Tide are coming into the tournament in laughter and high spirits.
“I mean listen, I’m not saying that I’ve already won a 4v4 tournament this year,” LEGIQN told Smith and In The Know. “Two of my teammates might have been two of the best players in the world but that’s irrelevant! I did my part! I’m ready to do my part in this tournament. I heard Devonta is going to be carrying me anyways.”
“I really wasn’t too big on games like [Call of Duty],” Smith replied about his own experience. “I’d say probably past two years I just really got into [Call of Duty] … just playing for real, I’m excited.”
LEGIQN described his game plan as being complementary. If his opponent is aggressive, then he’ll play aggressively. If his opponent is laying low, he’s fine with doing the same.
As for potential rivals, Smith has been playing with Henry Ruggs III every day and heard that Justin Jefferson is a serious gamer. LEGIQN called out the legendary esports “grandpa” OGRE 2 and Slacked.
“That’s my childhood idol from the olden days of gaming,” LEGIQN said. “Are you kidding me? I used to watch that guy win tournaments. He’s like one of the most winningest tournament players in the history of video games. So yeah, I’d like to destroy him first.”
Next up is our returning champion. Cesar “Skyz” Bueno of the Florida Mutineers won the ITK Bowl 2020 in Miami last year with his partner, Landon Collins of the Washington Football Team. This year, Skyz is teaming up with Mark Ingram II, a free agent who most recently played with the Baltimore Ravens.
“I don’t care about them kids, man,” Ingram declared. “We going to tuck them in. Put them night night.”
“Last year, I won with Landon Collins,” Skyz replied. “So I got to bring the momentum this year.”
The duo is running a game plan that matches their free-wheeling trash talk. Skyz and Ingram both intend to play offensively and put a lot of pressure on their opponents.
When sizing up the competition, Skyz marked Owakening as a big threat while Ingram wished the best for his fellow University of Alabama alumni in the tournament. One thing is for sure, this pair is confident that they’ll take the whole tournament.
Ingram’s closing statement exemplified the spirit of this tournament and, indeed, all of esports.
“I’m always willing to learn, I’m always willing to get better,” Ingram said. “I don’t know it all but I know a lot.”
