Introducing Theranexus Société Anonyme (EPA:ALTHX), The Stock That Tanked 83%

Theranexus Société Anonyme (EPA:ALTHX) shareholders should be happy to see the share price up 24% in the last month. But that is meagre solace when you consider how the price has plummeted over the last year. Indeed, the share price is down a whopping 83% in the last year. It's not uncommon to see a bounce after a drop like that. The important thing is whether the company can turn it around, longer term.

We really hope anyone holding through that price crash has a diversified portfolio. Even when you lose money, you don't have to lose the lesson.

Theranexus Société Anonyme recorded just €601,629 in revenue over the last twelve months, which isn't really enough for us to consider it to have a proven product. You have to wonder why venture capitalists aren't funding it. So it seems that the investors focused more on what could be, than paying attention to the current revenues (or lack thereof). It seems likely some shareholders believe that Theranexus Société Anonyme will significantly advance the business plan before too long.

Companies that lack both meaningful revenue and profits are usually considered high risk. You should be aware that there is always a chance that this sort of company will need to issue more shares to raise money to continue pursuing its business plan. While some such companies do very well over the long term, others become hyped up by promoters before eventually falling back down to earth, and going bankrupt (or being recapitalized). It certainly is a dangerous place to invest, as Theranexus Société Anonyme investors might realise.

Theranexus Société Anonyme had cash in excess of all liabilities of just €4.5m when it last reported (June 2019). So if it has not already moved to replenish reserves, we think the near-term chances of a capital raising event are pretty high. With that in mind, you can understand why the share price dropped 83% in the last year . Of course, the truth is that it is hard to value companies without much revenue or profit. What if insiders are ditching the stock hand over fist? I would feel more nervous about the company if that were so. It costs nothing but a moment of your time to see if we are picking up on any insider selling.

A Different Perspective

While Theranexus Société Anonyme shareholders are down 83% for the year, the market itself is up 29%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Putting aside the last twelve months, it's good to see the share price has rebounded by 3.8%, in the last ninety days. This could just be a bounce because the selling was too aggressive, but fingers crossed it's the start of a new trend.
