Influencer issues warning about disturbing health scare: 'I thought it was normal'

A woman issued a warning to her followers after revealing that what appeared to be a “normal” bump on her stomach was actually a potentially deadly health condition.

TikTok user and influencer Kayley Reese urged other women and people with ovaries to see a doctor if they have a similar concern.

In her post, she shared a clip of another TikTok user who called a similar-looking bump on her stomach “normal,” saying there’s “nothing to be ashamed of.” It’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of, and there’s a chance it could be perfectly normal — many people have bumps on their stomachs from fat or their uterus.

The one Reese had, however, was a dangerous cyst. The 23-year-old explained that she noticed her stomach growing over the past year to the point where it became uncomfortable to lie face down.

“When I first started noticing it, I figured it was weight gain. Over the year, it continued to grow and protruded to the point [where] it started to seem disproportional to my body,” she told Newsweek. “In the beginning of June, I was fighting constant nausea and dizziness. I flew back to my hometown and showed my mom the lump.”

She explained in the comments that she ultimately realized the bump wasn’t “normal” because it was severely protruding and completely hard. She was also experiencing constant nausea and dizziness.

After feeling the bump herself, Reese’s mother took her to the emergency room. She received a CT scan, which uncovered an 8.5-inch cyst on her ovary.

“They told me they had never seen one that large on someone my age,” she said. “I was scheduled for emergency surgery where they removed the cyst, leaving a scar from my belly button to the top of my pelvis.”

Fortunately the cyst was benign, but she said there was a chance it could have turned into cancer if she hadn’t acted fast enough.

Reese told Newsweek she wants to use her platform to spread awareness about the condition and plans to donate part of the profits from her clothing line, Savvy Kay Boutique, to a different cancer foundation every month.

“f you take one thing from this video, it’s ‘go get your bumps looked at.’ I thought it was normal,” she said in her post. “Not meant to scare but to raise awareness.”
