How Lyft is giving women 'one less excuse' not to get mammograms

Lyft (LYFT) is doing its part for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The company will provide free rides to mammogram appointments during the month of October.

“We really wanted to increase both awareness, and give women one less excuse to go and get their mammograms,” Lyft’s Vice President of Healthcare Megan Callahan told YFi AM.

The free rides will be offered in Chicago, Houston, New York City, Ottawa, Toronto, and Washington D.C., striving to help the 3.6 million people who are unable to receive care due to lack of transportation.

Callahan says that medical care has been a focus for Lyft for “close to 4 years. We’ve got over 100 people working in the health care business. What we’ve done is partner with really large health care organizations, who control over 90% of the rides.”

Lyft has made many recent expansions into health care through its partnerships with companies such as electronic healthcare record system company AllScripts, which gives Lyft access to 7.2 million people.

“We work with the top nine out of 10 health systems, we work with the top nine out of 10 transportation brokers,” she says.

Callahan says the partnerships the company has made, as well as “the scale we bring to the problem,” have separated them from competitors such as Uber (UBER).

“Health care has been a fast growing segment for Lyft, and it also is trending positively in terms of profitability,” she continued.
