Hospitality venues across Australia are so desperate to find workers that some have resorted to offering sign-on cash bonuses for Aussies who take up jobs.

The Australian Venue Co, which operates around 150 venues nation-wide, is currently hiring for bar, gaming and waitress positions all around the country.

But those not tempted by a job offer alone could be enticed by an added $1,000 sign-on offer to the mix.

“Entry level bar and gaming staff with sign on bonus up to $1000,” one of the company’s job ads states.

“Looking for an opportunity to build your career within a world class company? And a sign on bonus to kick start your career in hospitality.”

Many of the ads state no experience is necessary, with the company offering to provide on-site paid training, career progression and development opportunities.

You can apply for the roles via the Australian Venue Co’s careers website.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Scott Morrison told 2GB that he had received “anecdotal feedback” from small businesses, saying they were finding it difficult to make hires during the pandemic while the Government was providing economic support measures, like the $550 Coronavirus Supplement.

However, according to ABS data, as of August this year there were around 1.6 million Aussies competing for 105,000 jobs, or a job seeker to job vacancy ratio of around 1 to 15.

Industry bounces back

While the hospitality industry was one of the hardest hit as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, with lockdown restrictions now near-completely eased, it has rebounded significantly, new data shows.

According to Gumtree, waitressing is the top fastest-growing job search on the marketplace, up a whopping 287 per cent over the October-November period.

That’s closely followed by hospitality, which has grown 283 per cent over the same timeframe. Job searches for kitchen hands have also increased 108 per cent, while searches for chefs have grown 41 per cent.
