Exxon Mobil Corp will shut down two offshore oil production projects in Guyana for two weeks each, between July and August, to connect a natural gas pipeline, the company's country head Alistair Routledge told reporters in Georgetown on Tuesday. The 140-mile (225-km) pipeline will feed Guyana's $1.9 billion gas-to-power project aimed at ending the country's dependence on imported fuels and at lowering energy costs for residents. Exxon has said it will halt production to fulfill a commitment made with local authorities to have the pipeline connected by year end, despite delays on the government-run onshore part of the project.

Canadian oil and gas company Cenovus Energy beat first-quarter profit estimates on Wednesday due to higher production and refinery throughput, and executives said the start-up of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion (TMX) would open up new markets. TMX will nearly triple the flow of oil to Canada's west coast to 890,000 barrels per day, which is expected to transform access to global markets for the country's producers. "Our teams have been working with buyers, there's a pretty vast market out there, which is exciting," Drew Zieglgansberger, chief commercial officer at Cenovus, said on an earnings call, adding the company expected some "bumpiness" in the pipeline's initial operations.

A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday said a lawsuit filed by 21 young people claiming the U.S. government's energy policies violate their rights to be protected from climate change must be dismissed, this time for good. A three-judge panel of the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said in a five-page order that the case should have been dismissed after the court first weighed in on the matter in 2020, when it said courts could not mandate broad policy changes that are better left to Congress and the executive branch. While the young plaintiffs have since trimmed the lawsuit to seek only a declaration that their rights have been violated, the 9th Circuit said lawsuits must address harms that can be remedied by courts and such a declaration would not directly help the plaintiffs.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) -Oil prices rose on Thursday, rebounding from three days of losses, on expectations the lower levels may prompt the U.S., the world's biggest crude consumer, to start replenishing its strategic reserve, putting a floor under prices. Still, prices fell more than 3% on Wednesday to a seven-week after the U.S. Federal Reserve kept interest rates steady, which may curtail economic growth this year and limit oil demand increase. Crude was also pressured by an unexpected increase in U.S. crude inventories and signs of an impending Israel-Hamas ceasefire that would ease Middle East supply concerns.
