Google’s Year in Review: Most-searched trends of 2019

This is Google's Year in Review. Source: Google

As 2019 comes to a close, Google has revealed its most-searched terms, events, deaths, recipes and odd questions.

Given the gravity of the bushfires affecting the nation this year, ‘Fires near me’, referring to the NSW Rural Fires Services’ Fires Near Me app, was the most-searched term of the year.

This was followed closely by Rugby World Cup, Cricket World Cup, and the Federal Election results.

The top recipe search was ‘Plant based recipes’, and Aussies were burning to know ‘Why is Madonna wearing an eye patch at Eurovision?’

Social media users’ plans to storm Area 51 most likely failed because people didn’t know what it was, evident by the most-searched ‘what is?’ question: ‘What is Area 51?’
