Yahoo Finance Warriors star Steph Curry sidelined with the ‘seasonal flu,’ not the coronavirus
Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry will miss even more time this season, the team announced on Saturday afternoon.
Curry was diagnosed with the “seasonal flu” on Saturday, the team announced, and will not play in their game this evening against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Warriors made it clear, however, that Curry was not diagnosed with the coronavirus, or COVID-19 — which has infected more than 100,000 people in 90 countries and killed more than 3,400 people. As of Saturday, there are more than 400 confirmed cases in the United States.
“This morning Stephen Curry was diagnosed with influenza A by a positive viral testing,” Warriors team physician Dr. Robert Nied said. “We have identified his probable source contact who is not part of basketball operations. He has no specific risk factors for COVID-19. He has the seasonal flu. We have begun treatment for Stephen and instituted our team protocol for influenza exposure.”
Curry officially returned from his wrist injury on Thursday in their 121-113 loss to the Toronto Raptors at the Chase Center, and dropped 23 points while looking like his old self. He broke his wrist in October and underwent surgery just days later, which caused him to miss 58 games.
It’s unclear when Curry will be healthy enough to return for Golden State. The Warriors have 19 games left on their schedule.
