Fitzgerald conducted the alleged fraud when he was a senior executive at the media network by creating and approving fake invoices to companies he owned or controlled, according to the report.

NSW Police has confirmed an arrest has been made in relation to an "investigation into a multi-million-dollar fraud against a media network" but has not released the identity of the accused or the company.

"In March 2017, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad established Strike Force Hamment to investigate the misappropriation of funds totalling more than $8 million by a former employee of the network," said a statement from the police.

"Following extensive investigations, Strike Force Hamment detectives arrested a 57-year-old man at a home at Breakfast Point just before 8am today (Wednesday 24 July 2019).

"He has been taken to Burwood Police Station, where he will be charged."
