Fisherman killed by shark was 'beautiful' dad of two

A man fatally attacked by a shark while spearfishing off Queensland's Fraser Island on Saturday has been remembered as a loving family man.

Despite paramedics working on Matthew Tratt for over and hour, he died at the scene, leaving behind a wife and two children.

Mr Tratt’s wife, Kayla, posted an image of the pair overnight, prompting friends and family to leave messages of condolences.

“An amazing couple and family and Matt will be dearly missed,” one person wrote.

“We can’t comprehend what you must be going through right now Kayla. Our hearts are hurting for you and the kids so much. This is a gorgeous photo, you have so many beautiful pictures and memories to cherish in your heart forever,” another friend commented.

“You were taken way too early, you always had my back in the water, I only wish I could of been there today to have yours,” another friend wrote.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk described the incident as "very tragic".

"Our condolences go out to the family of the man who lost his life ... in that brutal shark attack," she told reporters on Sunday morning.

"It's once again a reminder that, especially around that Fraser Island area, it is home to a lot of sharks and great whites."

It is the second fatal shark attack on the east coast in a month.

Surfer Rob Pedretti died on June 7 after he was bitten by a great white shark off Kingscliff in northern New South Wales.
