FIRST LOOK: What it's like inside Australia's Facebook HQ in Sydney

Facebook has moved into a swish new skyscraper office in Sydney's CBD to accommodate its growing team in Australia.

Business Insider Australia was given a rare tour of the office, which is designed to look and feel like Facebook's other offices, while making use of local products and furniture.

Cosy hidey-holes and comfy couches are littered throughout the office, as are countless meeting rooms with quirky names that were voted for by staff. Names include Tim Tam, Paddlepop, Struth, and Bananas in Pyjamas.

There's a free canteen called Sundays, which serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks to Facebookers every day. The menu changes on a daily basis and a variety of cuisines are served up from around the world. Two Facebookers told us that they like the fact there's always plenty of healthy options on offer.

There's also a games area with a pool table, a ping pong table, and musical instruments. The games area also doubles up as a yoga studio and classes are provided several days a week.

Elsewhere, there's a large events space with one of the biggest screens in Australia, and an entertaining area with potted plants hanging from the ceiling.

Artworks from local artists are dotted throughout the office and there's a huge colourful piece by Rosie Deacon in one of the main work areas.

The office, led by William Easton, VP and managing director of Facebook Australia, is currently home to approximately 150 Facebook staff, but there's room for around 500 Facebookers in total. Facebook uses the office for its client services and marketing operations, but it doesn't actually build any products or features in it.

It is spread over three floors in one of the tallest buildings at Barangaroo, where a sprawling development is underway. A plethora of large corporates have moved into offices at Barangaroo including Accenture, Visa, KPMG, and Lendlease. There's a huge new Crown Casino — set to be the biggest in Australia — being built over the road from Facebook.

The social media giant, which opened its first facility in Australia 10 years ago, moved out of its old office above the Apple Store on George Street in January because it had outgrown it.

The new Sydney office is Facebook's ANZ headquarters but Facebook also has offices in Melbourne and Auckland.
