Model and blogger Rocky Barnes already gave In The Know her tips on postpartum fashion. Now the mama to 1-year-old Jones is sharing her favorite picks for new moms who are just emerging from the postpartum phase.

“We’re finally starting to leave the house again and we wanna look cute, right?” Barnes said.

Her first piece of advice was to prep your closet ahead of time.

“Having things kind of set and ready to go in my closet is one of the key tricks that I use,” she said.

Barnes has always been obsessed with high-waisted denim and becoming a mom didn’t change that one bit.

“I actually lived in my Express pair,” Barnes said. “They’re super stretchy and super high-waisted. Finding good denim that you can wear every day is so important.”

The chic mama isn’t shy about her love of shapewear, either, which may be more practical than you think.

“A nice form-fitting bodysuit, shapewear, even and a pair of black high-waisted jeans. You can throw on a sweater, on a cute jacket. It’s an easy go-to,” she said.

Another staple she comes back to as a mom is a jumpsuit, like this flowy jumpsuit from Zara.

“Easy buttoning in the front if you’re still breastfeeding or pumping,” Barnes explained. “Show a little leg — highlight the parts of your body that you feel really good about.”

Then of course there is the classic little black dress. Barnes was already wearing one by Ganni.

“I have it dressed with a little cowboy boot, kinda throw a belt on to break it up and I threw a cardigan on from my line, The Bright Side,” Barnes said.

But there’s nothing more convenient than a two-piece set, it does all the styling work for you.

“Any kind of set. This one here is also from my line The Bright Side,” she said of a sweater and short set. “They’re stretchy and soft, as a new mom you’re running around, chasing after your kid so comfort is always going to be key.”
