Ellen Degeneres has shocked fans after debuting a completely new hairstyle on her show.

The 62-year-old who is known for her signature blonde pixie haircut appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show sporting a slicked back quiff.

Many fans commented saying that perhaps the TV presenter decided to shake up her hairstyle after a tumultuous year, which saw her embroiled in a ‘toxic’ workplace scandal.

“Ellen got so much backlash it affected her hair? Looks like Martin Sheen to me,” one person wrote online.

One person said: “Loved your previous style,” while another said she now looks exactly like her Aussie wife, Portia de Rossi.

Others fawned over her new look, saying: “Ellen! Hold up! Loving the hair.”

During the show's season 18 premiere in September, Ellen finally addressed the toxic work allegations that plagued her for months.

"How was everybody’s summer? Good? Yeah? Mine was great," holding two thumbs up sarcastically. "Super terrific."

The host then acknowledged the fact people have been waiting for this moment for months. "If you’re watching because you love me, thank you. If you’re watching because you don’t love me, welcome."

"There are a lot of things I want to talk about, I’ve been looking forward to addressing it all directly. And unfortunately, talking directly to people has been illegal for six months so I have a virtual audience here instead," she joked.

Some fans believed Ellen's apology was genuine with one Instagram fan writing: "Honestly... the most well delivered, well-worded, seemingly genuinely explanation, ownership and apology I’ve seen in a LONG TIME."

However, not everyone was impressed with one Twitter user writing: "The million dollar opener, written and directed by public relations crisis consultants."

The Ellen DeGeneres Show is currently under investigation following multiple allegations of its “toxic work environment”.

Allegations from current and former employees include claims of being fired after taking medical leave or bereavement days, facing microaggressions and a culture of bullying and favouritism by executive producers.

No specific claims were made against Ellen, although some staff claimed they were told not to speak to the TV presenter and comedian if she was in the office and not to make eye contact with her.
