Yahoo Finance Dr. Anthony Fauci's unfortunate first pitch becomes a Topps baseball card
Dr. Anthony Fauci is getting his own baseball card — even if it’s for a moment he’d probably take back.
Fauci’s unfortunate first pitch from Thursday night’s opening game between the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals has been turned into a piece of collectible cardboard. Topps has put Fauci in its Topps Now series, an on-demand baseball card program where cards commemorating specific events are sold for only 24 hours.
Here’s Fauci’s card:

Luckily for Fauci it doesn’t show where the pitch landed — six feet away from home plate, as the joke common says. Fauci laughed it off on Friday saying: “It went in the wrong direction. I joked around after and said I used to be a shortstop when I played ball as a young boy and I thought I was supposed to throw to first base.”
Topps Now is a very modern twist on baseball cards. It’s not like when you bought a pack at your local card shop or the corner store. Topps sells the card for $9.99 for exactly 24 hours. After sales end, Topps only prints however many cards were sold. It creates exclusivity to that card, because Topps will never print any more of the cards.
