What does it mean when someone’s at their ‘beekeeping age’?

TikTok has grabbed hold of yet another new term, and people are running with it. The phrase is “beekeeping age,” which you may or may not have seen women using in various lip-sync videos on the platform. But if you think it’s an insult or even a sly way of calling someone “old,” you might be surprised by the definition.

Turns out, “beekeeping age” typically refers to attractive older men around 40 or 50 years old. (Basically, it’s another way of saying “DILF” or “Zaddy.”) And it’s definitely meant as a compliment.

According to Urban Dictionary, Adult Swim’s Rick & Morty coined the word in an episode in which Summer’s friend lusts after her dad Jerry (while he’s literally tending to his bees) and not-so-subtly implies that she’s attracted to him.

Hence, the TikToks that mention the phrase usually involve a soundbite from the episode, which aired in 2020 during Season 4.

The trend isn’t totally new, since many of the videos were posted throughout 2022, but it sure seems to be holding on strong.
