A jaw-dropping video showing veteran TV star Denise Drysdale breaking her shoulder on Channel 7's Holey Moley has shocked fans after it went to air on Sunday evening.

The 72-year-old TV personality has for months sparked speculation around how she fractured her shoulder while competing on the popular family program, and on last night's episode we finally got the answer when we saw Denise take a serious tumble on the set of the show.

While she was competing with ex-Olympic speed skater Steven Bradbury on the 'Frankenputt' challenge, Denise was given an electric shock as a punishment.

Rattled, she proceeded to chase the 'Frankenputt' mascot around the green, threatening to give him a taste of his own medicine by turning the shock on him.

It wasn't to be however, with the Studio 10 host instead hitting the green with force as she ran, prompting medics to rush to the scene.

"I did my shoulder," she can be heard saying, while commentators Rob Riggle and Matt Shirvington reacted in real-time, their shock at the unexpected turn evident.

"Oh, that hurt like hell," Denise can be heard groaning. "Oh my god."

The entertainer was ultimately taken off in a stretcher, keeping her trademark sense of fun going despite the pain, joking she looked like 'Hannibal Lecter'.

'Ahh, I'm in a sling," she said, lambasting 'that bloody gopher' before yelling to her competitor: "Steven, I'm out!"

It comes after she opened up about her injury on Studio 10 in early February, admitting her hand was still not properly healed months after the fact.

Back in October she first referenced the injury on Studio 10, saying she was filming at 3:30 in the morning when the incident unfolded.

"I wasn't playing silly buggers. It was 3.30 in the morning and a segment I was doing shouldn't have even been considered," she said.

Concerned fans took to Twitter after watching the confronting video, to check in on the veteran star, and to serve a strong reprimand to Channel 7 over the incident.

"[Holey Moley] please tell me Denise Drysdale is alright," one fan wrote. "I am concerned over her trip."

"The ad for #holeymoleyau with Denise Drysdale being hurt, makes me feel uncomfortable," another agreed. "For a TV program that is supposed to be family-friendly, I don't 'get' why they are gleefully promoting the episode and showing her down on the ground."
