Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has said Danny Ings’ latest injury is “serious but not too serious” and that the striker could return to the pitch by the end of March.

Ings was substituted 13 minutes into the Saints’ Premier League victory over Sheffield United on Saturday, appearing to sustain a muscle issue in his leg.

Speaking on Monday, Hasenhuttl said that the 28-year-old England international is not expected to face a lengthy absence, and that he could be back in action once the upcoming international break has ended.

“I think it is a serious one but not too serious,” the Austrian coach told Southampton’s official website.

“I think three weeks it’ll be, expect him back after international break.”

James Ward-Prowse scored from the penalty spot in the first half and Che Adams found the net after the break in the Saints’ 2-0 away win against Sheffield United, keeping Hasenhuttl’s side 14th in the top-flight standings.
