Commonwealth Bank customers without money after technical glitch

Commonwealth Bank customers have been affected by a widespread technical outage this morning that left services such as net banking, EFTPOS services, ATMs, credit cards and mobile banking out of action.

Frustrated customers reported being caught out at services stations, supermarkets and cafes unable to pay for their fuel, groceries or even just a coffee.

While access to online banking appeared available, once logged in an error message appeared explaining information was unable to be retrieved.

Commonwealth Bank released a statement on its website apologising for the inconvenience and assuring customers they were working hard to fix the outage.

It has since confirmed this afternoon that services were returning to normal.

The bank was busy on social media this morning in an attempt to mitigate anger from frustrated customers.

Commonwealth Bank customers have become increasingly familiar with technical issues in recent months.

In August some customers noticed the bank had been double-charging them for credit or debit purchases.

Many have aired their frustrations on social media with one amused person claiming the glitch has been ongoing for 14 hours.

According to Commonwealth Bank, these are the issues customers are facing:

* NetBank scheduled payments due today have been delayed. These will be completed later this morning and there is no action required by you. Please consider this when you do your banking

*Credit card and Travel Money Card information and functions may not be accessible when you login to NetBank or CommBank app

*BPAY payments may also not be available

*Our automated phone banking service is also impacted
