Coles’ major Uber Eats and DoorDash change

Coles shoppers will no longer be able to access in-store special prices and deals when shopping via the delivery platforms.

If you’re a Coles shopper and you buy groceries via Uber Eats or DoorDash, we have some bad news, after the supermarket giant confirmed a major pricing change.

Coles will no longer offer shoppers the same in-store special prices and discounts when they shop via the two popular delivery services. Previously, the prices on offer were the same whether you shopped in-store or via Uber Eats or DoorDash.

Coles, along with rival Woolworths, both offer their own delivery services but these often come with minimum spends and longer turnaround times. This has opened up space for delivery platforms like Uber Eats, DoorDash and Milkrun to expand into the market and offer shoppers quick, last-minute deliveries.

Yahoo Finance understands Coles’ change is in line with other retailers and is common practice across businesses who use the delivery platforms.

“We have made a decision to adjust the price of products available through on-demand delivery platforms Uber Eats and DoorDash,” a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Finance.

“This change reflects the convenience these services offer, allowing our customers in predominantly metro areas to order last-minute groceries and have them delivered in a short time frame.”

Shoppers disappointed

Coles shoppers have shared their disappointment at the move, with one Aussie saying she had been ordering her groceries via Uber Eats for months.

“The prices were whatever the price was at Coles. The driver always gave you the Coles receipt,” the shopper shared on Facebook. “Now all the prices have been increased ... some very dramatically! Example the coffee sachets I get on sale for $3.80 - charged $9 through Uber Eats.”

Another shopper commented: “I just ordered some stuff and paid $14.30 for mince for it to arrive with an $11 sticker on.”

What other delivery options are available?

“These on-demand partner delivery services complement our Coles Online services. which offer the same in-store pricing as our supermarkets,” the Coles spokesperson said.
