Yahoo Finance Report: Caris LeVert to return to Nets on Saturday after thumb surgery
The Brooklyn Nets are slowly getting healthy again.
After missing seven weeks due to right thumb surgery, guard Caris LeVert is expected to return to the floor for the Nets against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
LeVert looked like he was taking another step forward early in the season, averaging a career-high 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in nine games until he went down with a thumb injury. That was a tough blow for the disappointing Nets, who signed LeVert to a three-year, $52.5 million extension in the offseason.
One player’s return down, one to go for Nets
Getting LeVert back should be helpful for the Nets, who currently hold the seventh playoff spot in the Eastern Conference at 16-17. Of course, there’s still the matter of the team’s other important guard getting healthy.
Kyrie Irving has been out since Nov. 14 after aggravating a shoulder injury and hasn’t looked close to a return since. Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson said at the end of January that he doesn’t believe Irving will require surgery, but there hasn’t been much good news beside that.
The Nets looked like they could stay afloat in the East without Irving and LeVert, going 12-6 in the 18 games following Irving’s shutdown thanks to the efforts of Spencer Dinwiddie. However, they have since lost four straight, so LeVert’s return should be more than welcome.
