Investors who take an interest in The Beauty Health Company (NASDAQ:SKIN) should definitely note that the Chairman, Brenton L. Saunders, recently paid US$6.10 per share to buy US$362k worth of the stock. However, it only increased shareholding by a small percentage, and it wasn't a huge purchase by absolute value, either.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Beauty Health

In fact, the recent purchase by Brenton L. Saunders was the biggest purchase of Beauty Health shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$6.42. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. Happily, the Beauty Health insiders decided to buy shares at close to current prices.

Insider Ownership Of Beauty Health

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Beauty Health insiders own about US$91m worth of shares. That equates to 11% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Do The Beauty Health Insider Transactions Indicate?

It is good to see recent purchasing. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Beauty Health insiders are well aligned, and that they may think the share price is too low.
