Brandon Blackwood was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and spent his childhood between New York and Tokyo. He launched his first handbag collection in 2015, which consisted of just four styles at the time. He has since blown up to be one of the hottest designers out there. Today, Blackwood offers everything from belt bags and totes to wallets. So he was an obvious choice to star on In The Know’s September cover, which is all about luxury.
The cover shoot took place in Fort George, New York with photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis behind the camera. Each of the eye-catching outfits featured a mix of high and low brands such as Bottega Veneta, Coach, Zara, AMI, Alexander Wang and more. And, naturally, there was no shortage of Brandon Blackwood bags.
The 29-year-old designer was interviewed by In The Know’s Consulting Editor at Large, Elaine Welteroth, over Zoom. The two covered every topic from how his heritage influences his designs, what Black luxury means to him and how he would like to see the fashion world change over the next ten years.
