Aussie travellers can save $970 with one switch
The cheapest time to book your next holiday has been revealed.
Aussie travellers can save hundreds of dollars on airfares by being savvy about their travel dates.
International airfares have skyrocketed since the pandemic, with return economy airfares increasing 51 per cent to an average of $1,826.
But that hasn’t stopped Aussies’ appetite for travel, with new data from KAYAK revealing international flight searches have increased by about 68 per cent compared to before the pandemic.

While this won’t be possible for everyone, one way to save is by being flexible about your travel dates. For instance, KAYAK found Aussies travelling to London could save up to $970 by opting to fly in October instead of December.
October is the cheapest month to travel to London this year, with the average return economy ticket sitting at $1,759. Unsurprisingly, December is the most expensive time to fly, with tickets currently $2,729 on average.
For those planning a holiday to Bali, KAYAK found the cheapest month to go was November, costing $555, on average, while the most expensive month was December, costing $817, on average.
For Tokyo, travellers should try to go in August - with average flights costing $1,153 - and avoid December - when flights will set you back $1,629, on average.
Cheapest travel destinations
If you’re looking for a more affordable getaway, KAYAK has also revealed the cheapest international destinations for this year. This is based on travel dates between July and December.
The cheapest short-haul destinations and the average prices were:
Auckland, New Zealand - $641
Denpasar, Bali - $734
Queenstown, New Zealand - $743
Noumea, New Caledonia - $712
For long-haul flights, the cheapest options were:
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam - $886
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - $889
Singapore - $925
